Update: 2018 Ridler Winner
Greg and Judy Hrehovsik’s radical ’57 Chevy built by Johnny’s Trim & Rod Shop wins the 2018 Detroit Autorama Don Ridler Memorial award.
It’s rare that a ’57 Chevy captures the attention of the judges and spectators like the Hrehovsik’s ’57 did at this year’s Autorama. But it’s not every day you see a ’57 that has been chopped 3-inches, channeled 3-inches and wedge-sectioned 1-3-inches front to rear. The resulting silhouette is simply stunning, especially in silver. The wedge sectioning accentuates the iconic tail fins embellished with a smooth, custom chrome taillight that seamlessly flows into the bumper forming these huge chrome chevrons at the rear of the car.
Johnny and Ryan Martin tackled this gargantuan build at their Colorado facility. It’s the second Ridler contender to roll out of their shop, and they left no detail unresolved. From the twin-turbo 515ci big-block Chevy that fits nicely under the pancaked hood to the custom-fabricated independent rear suspension, However, the elegance and simplicity of the interior design and trim set the tone for this build – style, power, old-world craftsmanship and a certain restraint not found in many show cars these days.
Congratulations to the Hrehovsiks and the Martins for winning the 2018 Don Ridler Memorial Award. Well done!

Who will follow last year’s winner, Buddy and Nancy Jordan’s hand-built 1933 Ford roadster? With just two Gen I Camaros, a ’56 Lincoln and a ’57 Chevy, the pre-’40 cars have a 50/50 chance of a repeat street rod win. Judging will take place on Sunday, March 4th.
